It is possible to perceive community as the “town where you live.” You will find the houses where we live, the places where we work, the schools where our children go, and various facilities and people in our towns.
Until now, Japan’s postwar economic growth has focused on the development of the road/railroad networks that link large cities with rural areas and buses/subways that connect towns – in other words, building hardware called public buildings. Mass production and mass consumption has given us a wealth of things and people’s daily lives have been enriched.
In the 1990s, the Japanese economy, which had been expanding up to that point, stalled together with the collapse of the bubble economy. Technological innovation in terms of the Internet greatly changed previous concepts concerning manufacturing, time and money.
Today, Japan has entered areas which it previously had no experience with such as the arrival of the super ageing society, the concentration of people in urban areas and the reduction of the workforce. Technological innovation is increasingly advancing and it is possible to solve various things without leaving our seats. This is the age that has already begun. What will become of the towns where we live while society becomes more convenient and efficient? Are there people who find it difficult to go shopping or to the hospital? Are there people who want to know even more about their towns? Are there people who want their towns to be even more lively?
What should community be in the future? We use a method of transportation called a velo (= a bicycle) to think and act together with the people living in the community. We are contributing to building spiritually rich, cheerful and fun towns.
Tourism transport business
Drafting and implementation of projects and tours targeting tourists (e.g. inbound tourists)
(1)The number of visitors from overseas is increasing every year such as due to the holding of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. In large cities where many tourist facilities are scattered around, it is difficult to understand where to board transport facilities and it takes time to make transfers when moving around on the existing transportation network. Therefore, improving the ability to move around has become a major issue. Community velos will lead to movement to the center of towns from large facilities and also contribute to the revitalization of regional economies in addition to increasing convenience for users.
Lifestyle transport business
Support for the daily life of the elderly (e.g. commuting to hospital and shopping) and employment
Support for the child rearing generation (response to various problems related to children on kindergarten waiting lists)
Popularization and promotion as a third means of transportation in regions
The cost of social security will continue to increase in the future due to the arrival of the super ageing society. Being able to freely enjoy going out will lead to the maintenance/promotion of health and contribute to the revitalization of regional economies and suppression of the social security spending.
We also operate a café as a “place for relaxation and refreshment” for local residents and tourists in Sumida Station. It is also possible to use this as a place to disseminate regional information with exchanges between local residents and tourists.
Other implementation of bicycle safety education and cooperation/support of eco activities
The number of accidents involving bicycles has been increasing and share cycles have been becoming more and more popular in recent years. We run public awareness activities on road safety (e.g. instruction on traffic rules for bicycles and guidance on how to ride bicycles) to contribute to the eradication of bicycle accidents and to eliminate abandoned bicycles.
